Here is the direct answer first. A Pilates retreat in the Algarve is a few days of morning Reformer sessions, good food cooked for you, time outdoors, and afternoons with nothing in them. Small group, private rooms, transfers from Faro included. I run them, so I am biased. But I also watch what happens to people over those few days, and that is what this post is about.
As I write this I am packing for our next one. So consider this less of a sales page and more of me telling you, between rolling up mats and counting grip socks, why I think everyone should do one of these at least once.
The thing nobody expects.
People book a retreat for the Pilates. They leave talking about the rest. Not rest as in lying down, although there is plenty of that available. Rest as in nobody needing anything from you for four or five days. No cooking, no driving, no deciding. Someone else has thought about dinner. Your only job is to turn up to the morning session, and even that feels less like a job by day two.
Most of the people who come on our retreats are the capable ones. The organisers. The ones everyone else leans on. Watching that person realise, somewhere around the second afternoon, that they have absolutely nothing to organise, is my favourite part of the whole thing.
What the days actually look like.
Morning Reformer sessions, coached to whoever is in the room. Complete beginners and longtime regulars work side by side because everything can be adjusted. Then breakfast, made by the chef. Then the day opens up: a guided walk, a swim, a book by the pool, a nap you refuse to feel guilty about. Evenings are around a shared table with food someone talented has cooked and conversation that gets better each night.
Your own room, always. A villa or quinta somewhere lovely in the Algarve. And because the group is small, by the end it feels less like a fitness holiday and more like a house full of friends who happen to do Pilates in the morning.
Why the Algarve makes it work.
I could run retreats anywhere. I run them here because the Algarve does half the work for me. The light, the coast paths, the food, the way the pace of the place drops your shoulders about an hour after you land. People fly into Faro from all over Europe in under three hours, and the transfer is included, so the whole thing is about as low effort as travel gets.
Who retreats suit.
People who need a proper break rather than a busy holiday. Solo travellers, who always worry beforehand and are always fine by the first dinner. Friends who book together. Regulars from the studio who want a deeper few days on the Reformer. And beginners, genuinely, because everything is coached and modified. What you do not need: experience, a particular fitness level, or anyone to come with.
How to make one happen.
Victoria now runs only a select few retreats each year, all private, which is what keeps them genuinely bespoke. If you have a group of friends who would love a Reformer Pilates retreat in Portugal, in a villa designed completely around you, fill out the short form on the retreats page with how many of you there are, how many nights, and what time of year. She will be in touch to design it with you. Pricing starts from €2,500 per person for 3 nights.
